YUM! I stopped by Gus's with a couple people after a night of drinking. We were sat down at a table immediately, and because it was a Wednesday, there weren't that many groups there. Our server came to us very quickly and we all ordered right away. The food came out a little bit slower than I'm used to, but not too long. It may have felt like a long time because all of our orders were relatively simple.
I ordered two tenders, and they ended up gifting me an extra one. I was happy about the extra tender, but there was no chance I would have the space to finish it. The tenders were medium sized and a little larger than I anticipated. All our fried chicken came out piping hot and clearly incredibly fresh. Super crispy and extremely flavorful.
We were all quite happy with what we ordered! I took home my third tender home. I will be back when I'm in the mood for some friend chicken! -

What can I say? Their chicken is crispy and juicy and all the flavors without needing sauce!! I'm a huge fan of Harold's over on 87th n Dan Ryan too so I like my sauce. But this chicken is amazing. Every. Single. Bite!!
And the sides!!! I don't care much for beans but their baked beans won my vote.. as does their stick to your ribs mac n cheese! And even the coleslaw is a tasty light side. Fan of e everything I've tried so far and doubt anything will disappoint.
Extra plus, their service is wonderful! -

Chicken was crispy but not hot or spicy.
The wait staff was inattentive and slow.
Fried green tomatoes don't belong on the menu. They were mushy and slimy. -

Inside has plenty of seating and tables available. I've never had any problems with long waits to eat. The food itself is pretty good. The breading of the chicken isn't spicy for me but for some of my friends they find it a bit spicy. The apps itself were alright; tasted like regular fries and Mac and cheese, nothing special about them. If you're in a big group, I recommend just ordering their chicken in a large amount rather than doing individual plates. Overall, I'd come back for their chicken if I'm ever in the area and craving some southern style fried chicken!

A friend of mine is so obsessed with Gus's that he wanted to come here for his birthday dinner.
We called ahead and made a reservation for a table of 10 at the very last minute and they were able to accommodate us. When we arrived, our table was ready and our wait to be seated was minimal. The service was extremely friendly. A few people were late and the waiter agreed to wait it out before he took all our orders.
The restaurant itself reminded me of Five Guys but with an upscale and southern twist. The utensils (plates, cups, forks, knives etc..) are all plastic to give you that southern BBQ feel, but that isn't too eco-friendly in my opinion.
We ordered a few appetizers to share amongst the table. We had the Fried Okra and Fried Pickle Spears. Both were fried to a perfect crunch. The chicken is approved in my book. I would've liked it to be a little more spicy, but you gotta cater to the Midwest I guess. It's seasoned to perfection and cooked perfectly. I had the 3 tender platter with the slaw and potato salad. I really wanted to try the baked beans based on all the reviews, but unfortunately it has pork in it. Speaking of which, I can't thank the restaurant enough for indicating that this has pork in it. I can't eat pork, and I would have never known that baked beans contained pork nor would I have even known to ask the waiter if it does!
Everyone enjoyed their time here and the food was great! We can't wait to be back!
